To say they focused on two software packages, SSD Tool Box and ssdtools, is an overstatement. The discussion of both packages is very limited. I was expecting more.

We have expanded the table on software tools and rewritten the section to allow more comparisons between tools. Elsewhere in the text we also state that “Several of the current authors are preparing a paper that looks at the performance of the various software tools with various case studies.”

  • Given we are already slightly over the word limit, I don’t see how we accommodate requests for additional discussion. The other point to make in relation to this comment is that it was never the intent of this paper to be a software review, the point of the Table is to simply identify them all.

Suggested action: perhaps very brief discussion about what each package can and can’t do.

    • Agree with there action. It may be that, given the reviewers’ requests for some more details, the editor may be comfortable with the paper being slightly over the word limit. Having said that, the word limit does give us a decent argument to push back on too much embellishment of the existing text.

      • As I commented elsewhere, we can point out the we (Rebecca) will be preparing a follow-up MS looking at software, performance and case studies.
